I think director Steven Soderbergh (Traffic) has taken a whole lot of nothing and turned it into something with his latest film -- The Girlfriend Experience. The film itself has the touch and feel of a documentary and therefore adds a sense of realism to the story. While I think that the plot (the life of a high priced NYC hooker...sorry, I meant to say "escort") is quite intriguing, I think the best part of the story is the time line -- the film takes place during the 2008 Wall Street crisis and adequately portrays the everyday (financial) fears of not only the high end escorts, but also the clientele of these "service providers" at the brink of the Wall street collapse. I work for a financial firm myself and can vividly remember those days. Not pretty...
